Apple to Licence Airplay Streaming, To Support Even More Video And Audio Devices? [Report]

Bloomberg has just reported that, Apple is seeking to expand it's AirPlay Technology to even more devices, By Licensing Video Streaming to more Tv Makers. Apple is currently Licensing Audio Streaming through Airplay to audio devices maker such as Pioneer. So this concept would be great if Video Streaming iOS supported devices are already installed in Televisions. This will increase Market share and Popularity of AirPlay too.





Under the plan, Apple would license its AirPlay software to consumer-electronics makers that could use it in devices for streaming movies, TV shows and other video content, said the people, who asked to remain anonymous because the plans haven't been made public. Apple now only licenses AirPlay for streaming audio. Devices that could be used for video may be available this year, one of the people said.

An expanded AirPlay would let users stream programming wirelessly from an Apple mobile device to a TV that carries the technology. That may spur wider use of Apple's services and devices in consumers living rooms.
If this happens it would be very easy for users to Stream Videos directly from their Devices, they don't have to buy separate set-top box devices like Apple Tv. BloomBerg also reported that licensees pay Apple $4 for each AirPlay-enabled component sold.
So it would be more fun when AirPlay for games (video-out) with a chip embedded in new television sets, that would be an interesting scenario for Apple.

Hack Airplay to Stream Videos on your MAC from iPhone and iPod Touch

AirPlay is a very cool technology. Unfortunately, if you don't own an Apple TV 2 or other capable receiving device, it's not going to do you much good. Many People likes Airplay but most of them doesn't have an Apple Tv 2, and rely on their iPhone and PC etc. So there's a good news for those people, Erica Sadun has worked hard to Hack iOS 4.2's Airplay feature, and has been succesfull in this task. So Erica has created an App called as "AirPlayer" which will allow you to  to stream videos from iPhone or iPad to the Mac.




What AirPlayer does is create and advertise a custom Bonjour AirPlay service that pretends to be an Apple TV. Bonjour is Apple’s zero configuration networking solution for allowing devices and applications to communicate with each other over local area networks. When Apple created AirPlay, it basically set up a new way for Apple TV to interact with iOS using Bonjour communications.
She’s not a Windows dev but says in theory the same thing should be possible on that platform and perhaps Linux as well.This is an great App for your MAC yes.. that's right it's not necessary that your device should be jailbroken, It runs on MAC not on iPhone or iPod Touch.
 But if  if you’re not Jailbroken and running AirVideoEnabler you’ll be limited to YouTube and iPod/Videos for your streaming (AirVideoEnabler lets 3rd party apps stream AirPlay video as well).
By interacting with iOS devices the same way that Apple TV does and providing the same kinds of services and feedback, AirPlayer allows you to use your iDevice's built in AirPlay support to send video to your Mac. You can download an ad-supported extremely alpha version from here.

Apple Release Airplay Video for iOS 4.2 iPad Featutres

Apple has released a new promotional videothat informs customers about AirPlay, the iOS 4.2 (and iTunes) feature that lets customers stream movies, music and photos from an iOS device to a current-generation Apple TV, Airport Express-connected speakers or AirPlay-enabled speakers.






We're testing this now, but the happy actor in the video makes it look easy. Just tap the AirPlay icon on your iOS device to send video, audio or photos to the appropriate device. With the multitasking power of iOS 4.2, you can even leave the video app playing, for example, and knock off a game of Angry Birds while you watch your show.


Note that AirPlay is very much a one-way street. That means you can send data from an iOS device to an Apple TV or speakers, and that's it. No iPad to Mac, for example, or Mac streaming to iDevices (although you can use third-party tools like Air Video and AirFoil to get the effect).
