Finally, Sony has officially anounced the cuts in the pricce of Playstation 3. PS3 160 GB Model is now available for $249 and €250 in Europe, being dropped from the original price tag of $299 . And Sony will now sell the 320GB version of the PlayStation 3 for $299 instead of $349. This price drop has been considered worldwide. So this price drop will somehow effect the market of Xbox 360 as it is the best selling console in US.
Sony is also hoping to regain lost ground from its main rival, Microsoft Corp, which makes the Xbox. It announced the cuts a week after sales for new games suffered their lowest month in nearly five years, according to retail research firm NPD. After a rough year of consistent hacks on Sony's PlayStation Network and other online services, the price cut is likely put in place to boost PS3 sales and stay competitive with Microsoft's Xbox 360. “In addition, a limited edition inFAMOUS 2 bundle is now available at participating retailers across North America. The bundle retails for $299 and includes a 320 GB PlayStation 3, a copy of inFAMOUS 2 and a 30-day membership to PlayStation Plus,” SCEA’s CEO Jack Tretton wrote on the official blog.
Sony's biggest current bet is the Vita, a light-weight handheld device with flashy graphics. Game blogs have lit up with criticism over its launch date and price. It will face a tough fight from Nintendo, which lowered the price of its handheld 3DS more than 30 percent only four months after it hit stores in the United States.
Sony said the new pricing would take immediate effect in Europe and start on August 18 in Japan.
The Counter-Strike series are some of the most successful multiplayer first person shooter games of all time on their native home of the PC. Starting life as a mod for the original Half-Life, the game enjoyed widespread popularity and spawned a series of variants which remain popular on Steam today. And now once again, the news is finally official that a new title in Counter-Strike series will soon be added, and it will be called as CounterStrike: GO (Global Offensive. A new Counter-Strike game is heading our way in early 2012. Counter-Strike: Global Offense will be releasing on the PC, PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade. Valve says the game, which is being developed by Hidden Path Entertainment, expands on the game's original action.
"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely mod became the most-played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next-gen consoles and the Mac."
Few further details are forthcoming right now, but reports suggest that Valve has been flying out a number of top Counter-Strike community members to their headquarters in Seattle to discuss the future of the game. Those that have been able to dribble out some information without being hunted down by PR agencies have suggested that the new game will offer 5v5 play and be largely aimed at competitive e-sports players.
New Features, Maps and Weapons: Valve has made this game really more interesting they've added some new maps and the graphics are just awesome. There will also be new gameplay modes, matchmaking and leaderboards incorporated. A few new weapons were added, including a new heavy machine gun rifle, new pistols, and a new shotgun, but I think the biggest addition was with the equipment. They added molotov cocktails, an expensive $850 item, which can be used to slow down opponents and re-route opponents through AOE damage. Molotov cocktails could be used to slow down T rushes through the tunnels into B on Dust2 or by Ts to slow CTs on retakes. Molotovs are currently stackable and bounce (versus an instant break), which might need to be revisited. Decoy grenades are also a new item that can be thrown to emit gun sounds and give the illusion of there being a player. The decoy grenade currently produced an AK / Glock when thrown by Ts and M4 / USP when thrown by CTs.
The new Counter-Strike: Global Offensive could be released as early as the first quarter of next year(2012). An official press release is said to be on its way,we'll update you soon when we get the news!
Recently, A poll on Facebook has been held by Village Instruments regarding external Graphics card for MAc and Windows, And as a result of that poll Village Instruments has agreed to begin development of an external Thunderbolt-connected graphics card enclosure. Village Instruments already has experience with its ExpressCard-connected ViDock graphics card chassis, which provides extra GPU juice for Windows and Mac laptops, and the Thunderbolt version is expected to be the same kind of thing, but faster.
This would be a Mac-exclusive until 2012 when Thunderbolt ports begin to appear in Windows-powered PCs. So you'll be wondering what ViDock is and what it is capable of:
A ViDock is simply an external case with enough space for a full-length, two-slot-high graphics card — or eGPU — and a convenient two-port USB hub. The current top-of-the-range ViDock 4 Plus provides up to 225 watts and two six-pin connectors — enough to power an Nvidia GTX 560 — and presumably the upcoming Thunderbolt equivalent will provide the same wattage or even more. Like the Thunderbolt Display it might also provide Ethernet and FireWire connectivity, which would be useful for MacBook Air or other ultralight/ultrabook laptops.
The only problem is, Thunderbolt is only 4x PCIe 2.0, so you won't be using this to connect modern, desktop-class GPUs to your laptop — and more importantly you need to carry around a second monitor to actually use a ViDock, there’s the need to carry an LCD monitor with you. The ViDock doesn’t allow you to feed graphics data back into your laptop: you need an additional monitor (or two) to reap the benefits of the external, desktop-class GPU. So why not just buy a proper gaming laptop?
Now, what will it cost for an gamer. The normal ViDock 4 Plus costs $279, you can be guaranteed that the Thunderbolt version will be at least $300.
