Twitter 2.0 Updated and released for Android - New UI, Bugs Fixes and Faster [Download]

Twitter has launched a new version of its Android app, and is now available for download from the Android Market. What’s new in Twitter 2.0? A brand new UI (user interface) which is easy to use and is more flexible. With realtime search, trending topics and maps, lots of bug fixes and is now a lot faster than before. Twitter update their Android app to match with Twitter app used in iPhone and web apps.




New Features of Twitter 2.0 for Android:

1. Twitter Android 2.0 app brings a new UI, the same dark look as on the Twitter.com website.
2. The header of the app brings quick access to the timeline, mentions, direct messages and lists.
3. You can now edit your profile info right from the app, including your Twitter profile photo.
4. Twitter Android app now scans your contacts on your phone, check their names for their Twitter IDs and show them all in a list for you to follow people you know.
5. Twitter for Android 2.0 is now a lot faster than the previous versions.
6. Twitter has also added the ability to use the app without signing in. This gives users the ability to browse the Twitterverse without the need to sign up, though Twitter has also added that option, too.

ÜberTwitter for iPhone Now Available for Download

For Blackberry users, the ‘best’ twitter client out there has been ÜberTwitter. For the iPhone, it’s SimplyTweet in my books. The developers of ÜberTwitter have released an iPhone version of their app. Let’s go over some of the positives and negatives of this much anticipated app, which @justinluey told me about.



iTunes Description:


A full featured Twitter client application to interact with Twitter.com. Users can connect the app with their Twitter account in order to view the posts of the people they follow, see any posts mentioning them, create new posts, send Direct Messages, and search Twitter. Additionally, any links that are included in any posts that the user readers can be previewed within the app either by tapping on the post or turning the phone into landscape mode. The content of the link is then displayed in a separate pane next to the tweet.

Some of the Other Changes in it are:


Map Provider - Allow users to select either MapQuest (default) or BlackBerry maps to display users locations. User action to retrieve a map You now have to click the ‘Retrieve Map’ button after opening a tweet in order for the map to be retrieved. This will result in substantially lower bandwidth requirements and improved battery life.
UberChannel date display bug fix - Fixed a bug where tweets in UberChannel streams had the date incorrectly displayed.
Resetting tweets to retrieve bug - Fixed bug where on an upgrade the number of tweets to retrieve would reset to 60.
Highlight color in Midnight Theme bubble layout - The highlight color in the Midnight theme when using the bubble layout is now much easier to discern.
Text Ad color - We changed the color of the text ads to conform to the them colors. The ads are still clearly marked as an advertisement.
GPS Radio Activation - The GPS radio will now only be activated when you open the compose tweet screen IF you have selected to use the GPS radio to determine location. This should greatly reduce battery drain, but may result in the location mechanism falling back to the cell tower method on some occasions.

Twitter 3.2 for iPhone Now Brings Push Notifications, iOS 4.2 Compatible [Features]

Twitter app should be updated a long while ago to get push notifications and fix iPad errors. So, as announced on the official Twitter blog, push notifications for messages and mentions have been enabled in the app. The updated also includes Retina graphics to the iPhone and geotagging with “one tap”.We knew the new version had been approved by Apple, and it was just waiting to go live in iTunes. The update, version 3.2, is finally available here.














 




According to the announcement of the official twitter blog, Twitter is ready for full iOS 4.2 compatibility for iPhone and iPad clients with some official push notification support for Direct Messages (DMs) and Mentions for Twitter for iPhone client. This updated Twitter app (version 3.2.1) also includes Retina graphics to the iPhone and geotagging with “one tap”


When you’re out and about, your phone probably isn’t always in front of you. It might be in your pocket or purse or on a table – perhaps with the screen off. We want to make sure you see important Tweets even when you’re not looking at Twitter at the moment. To help with that, today we’re launching push notifications for @mentions.
Whenever an account that you follow mentions you, you’ll immediately receive a notification. You’ll know who is talking to or about you on Twitter, and you’ll be able to continue the conversation in real-time. Notifications for @mentions will initially be available on SMS and on the latest version of Twitter for iPhone, which you can download today from the App Store.

Log into Twitter And Facebook using your Face and Voice Recognition [Video]

A great new feature has just been developed by European MoBio (Mobile Biometry) Project, Manchester Team. They have worked so hard on this feature and now N900 can run this feature. The features allows you to login to your favorite "Social Network" using "Voice" and "Face Recognition".











This new feature has made it easy for users to log-in to their account using their voice or their face, it also includes face movement and eye blinking so no one can easily login to your account. This means that this new feature has brought Security and reliability.
As part of the European MoBio (mobile biometry) Project, the Manchester team has developed a demo app that can log the user into Gmail, Twitter and Facebook using just face and voice recognition. Work on the technology finishes this month and Dr Philip A. Tresadern says that a number of well-known companies in the mobile space have shown interest in using the technology.
According to Dr Tresadern we can't fool this App as it also uses our eyeblinking and face movement. He also added that they have done this experiment on Nokia N900 and this feature might also hit iPhone 4 late after their experimentation on iOS devices.
