- Power off your iPhone
- Hold both the power and home button together for exactly 10 seconds
- Now, release the power buttom but, keep holding the home bottom for 15 to 20 may be till iTunes recognize your iPhone. (On DFU mode, you wouldn’t see any icons on the screen. It will be blank on the screen).
Apple has just released the new iOS 4.3 for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad With lot's of new features. Most of the Apple users have got tempt with it and upgraded their iDevice to iOS 4.3. But some of them are those who rely on Jailbreak. So the bad news is that iOS 4.3 is not good for Jailbreak users at it will damage their device. So if you're a Jailbreak user and want to get iOS 4.2.1 back then here's a guide for you.
NOTE: This guide will only work if you have shsh blobs saved for the particular firmware you are downgrading too.
To find if you have shsh blobs for particular firmware or not, go to cydia and check above the Welcome to cydia you will see it (SHSH Blobs) for particular iOS.
Guide: How To Downgrade iOS 4.3 to iOS 4.2.1, 4.1 for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad:
First of all Download the Old Custome FW File on which you want to downgrade. Click here to download.
Step 1: Windows users navigate to the following folder “C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc”
mac OS X users can get to “/etc/” directory by going through “Go –> Go to Folder” from Finder.
NOTE: Win 7 and Vista users MUST run Notepad with admin privileges. Right click on Notepad app and select Run as Administrator.
Step 2: Now, look for the file name hosts and open it with Notepad in windows and mac users should look for TextEdit.
Step 3: Open this “hosts” file in Notepad (for Windows) or TextEdit (for Mac OS X) and add this following line at the bottom of the file
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
Now simply save this file and you are good to go!
Step 4: Now, grab your iPhone, plug it in and lets put your iPhone into DFU mode.
Step 5: Here, iTunes will alert your that “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore it before it can be used.” Click okay
Step 6: Now, it time for us to restore the firmware – Hold down the “SHIFT” key (windows)/ “ALT” key (Mac) and click on “Restore“
Step 7: That’s it! Now, you can just sit and relax and let the restore finish.
Error: If you get 10XX errors, you don’t have to worry. Your restore might have successfully completed. But you need to get your iPhone out the recovery mode. So, to do that – Just download TinyUmbrella app that will help you enter and exit out of the recovery mode (Windows / Mac).
To kick out your device from recovery mode just hit the “Kick Device Out of Recovery” button on TinyUmbrella right below the Start TSS Server button or you can also use RecBoot. That’s it!
Note: You must now remove 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com line from the host file and save it. Doing this will let iTunes to prompt you about future updates from Apple.
